Spring Carnival Blog : Reading Rollercoaster

Welcome to the Reading Rollercoaster where books send you on a rollercoaster of emotions. Reading can make you happy, sad, angry or feel like you are falling in love to the point that it crosses over in some way into your real life. In 250 words or less, tell me about a time the emotions in a book crossed over into your real life and made you throw a book or giggle on a bus next to everyone. (Nothing erotic) The best story will be selected by me and announced on May 13th, you have until midnight May 12th to enter, so make it fun and entertaining. The winner will receive a swag pack of all my books and a paperback of The Earth Painter, my Paranormal Romance that will have your emotions all ove. All participants will receive a coupon code for my short prequel Winter Fae, co-authored with Pauline Creeden.

  1. I threw a lot of my Harry Potter books when characters died. Eventually my family stopped asking if I was okay and "who died?"

    Or more recently, when I yell at my books now, my boyfriend gets really confused. He'll get used to it one day :)

  2. I remember giggling a lot and blushing from reading Blankets by Craig Thompson. It's a graphic novel so whenever a drawing was funny I would take it to my friend and make him read it. I would practically show him something from every page so we just ending up reading it together. It's a great book and the experience was great.

  3. When I was in highschool, I was bad for reading rather than paying attention in class. Well we were suppose to be working on a study guide and instead I was reading one of the Alanna series books by Tamora Pierce. I had just got to the part where her gender is exposed to someone, I forget who - as it was years ago, and their reaction made me so mad that not only did I let out a loud "UGH", I also slammed the book shut, threw it on the desk, and proceeded to sulk. Needless to say, I had obviously forgotten where I was at, the teacher did not appreciate my lack of attention on the subject, and the book was taken away - meaning I had to wait until my mom went and got it from the teacher before I could finish it. THE HORROR OF HAVING TO WAIT 3 DAYS FOR HER TO GET IT BACK! It was on a Friday afterall. ;-;

  4. Don't like cliffhangers and was really upset when I read the stillness of you by Julia Bale and didn't know before reading it that it ended on a cliffhanger and there's no HEA. Was so upset I had to go back and re-read a fav book so I would feel better. Still can't really get over it

  6. Reading Libba Bray's "Going Bovine" made me laugh AND cry. It got to a point where I spent an entire day in quiet contemplation, crying off and on as I read (and then put the book down and tried to calm down). The main character felt so real, it was like watching my best friend die in front of me.

  8. Reading the final Harry Potter book was really where my emotions got the better of me. I kept screaming at the top of my voice, including cursing JK. Rowling and crying like a baby. Thank god I read at night so no one saw my crazy antics.

  9. At the moment, I'm reading Shadowspell by Jenna Black and I remember the book started when the character was on a date. I gasped and shrieked so loudly that my mum swerved on the road.
    I think my mum's regretting getting me that book now.

  11. I can't remember which book in the series, but I read the Vampire Academy books during finals last year, and there were a lot of ups and downs in her relationship with the main character Dimitri and I got so attached that one day something really bad happened (I don't want to spoil or anything but it was BAD) and I just started crying. The girl next to me looked over and like blurted out "Are you crying?!" and I was like "No"(while I started to sob) and the whole class just kinda laughed at me for a couple minutes til the teacher made us get back on task. Fun times.

  12. Oh! This happened just recently for me actually. I was reading the book Jekel loves Hyde and I just kept getting so mad at the characters. I would keep throwing the book down and saying "are you kidding me?!?!" or "just say you are sorry and you like her!!". It was a mess. I usually never get like that while reading but this got to me.

  13. I read a lot. On the train on the way to work, at work (when I can get away with it) and at home. So it's no surprise that books often start to take over my life. There have been times when I get so into a book and their characters that I start to see them as read people. My sister was less than impressed when I was reading and started to weep because my favourite couple in a book series were breaking up. I love when my favourte characters effect my emotions that much. Whilst reading the same book I was in tears again and thrilled when they got back together.

  14. Somethign like that happened. It was like crazy. I finished to read the book, did it online, and connected my phone to finish the last chapter while I was going to hospital for some blood tests. There were few other teenagers in there and when I just finished the book I just jumped and started to ask if he/she or who it was there have ever heard about this book. Most thought I have a mental illness, but that book was so awesome that I just did it.
    Btw, a friend of mine was near and saw me but couldn't recognize me while I was in that state of emotional happiness.
    I am able to name the book. City of Bones by Cassandra Clare.
